# How to extract text from a bracket cell in excel

Assuming you have some data in column **A** in an excel sheet and every cell contains lengthy text but you want to extract the text which is in between parentheses

**Formula:**

=LEFT(SUBSTITUTE(A2,LEFT(A2,FIND("(",A2)),""),FIND(")",SUBSTITUTE(A2,LEFT(A2,FIND("(",A2)),""))-1)

Please paste the above formula in cell **B2** and copy down the formula until the last row, the text in between the parentheses or brackets will be extracted accordingly.

### Tip

Please change the text string in the formula if you want to extract the text from a different string.

For example – {}, [], — , | | etc.

### How the formula works

It uses Left, Substitute and Find functions altogether. **Find** function is being used to search the conditional text string from where the text to be extracted. **Substitute** is being used to replace the additional text to **“Null”** which is not required and **Left** function is being used to find the start position of a text string.

You really make it seem really easy along with your presentation but I to find this topic to be actually one thing which I think I’d never understand. It kind of feels too complicated and very extensive for me. I am having a look ahead for your next post, I?¦ll try to get the hold of it!
